my daughter - who is five - spotted the purple section when we visited our local lego store yesterday. after looking at all the new sets, she chose "olivia's tree house." i am thrilled that lego has created a girl-themed product line. i have no complaint about what lego has offered so far, as our son and daughter have enjoyed our many lego sets throughout the years. i just read an article on yahoo that chastises lego for its gender stereotyping. but come on! my son and daughter have a variety of lego sets. the holiday-themed sets that we put together each christmas; the "pink" starter box. countless DUPLO sets that they have both played with. but she is a girl and she likes "girly" things too and that includes "girly" colors AND she is able to tell you the name of all the planets in order and has the space shuttle lego set. creating a "girl" themed product line in no way forces her into a gender role, limits the possibility of what she can achieve in life nor does it undermine her...

My six year daughter asked for Lego for this past Christmas. Having searched the Internet and stores I was discouraged that the selection was primarily marketed for boys with some unisex offerings. Knowing my daughters play habits, I decided to buy her lego creator apple tree house and Lego city corner. I figured that she could build a town to play with. I was hoping to buy her some female figures separately to play with. The problem I had with that was, there were precious few female mini figs. I was a little irritated with Lego for largely ignoring what is appealing for girls. While There are aisles of barbies and Disney princess, Lego is in the boys section of the toy store. And while we have barbies and princesses, which she has fun with, they don't really build her brain. I remember playing with Lego as a kid. 6 Year Old Girl Loves It
My daughter was so excited to see the new Lego Friends range. We already own a lot of Duplo and recently purchased the LEGO Bricks & More Deluxe Brick Box 5508 and the LEGO Fairy Tale Historic Miniature Figures - Contains 227 Pieces. Olivia's Tree House is a great addition to our collection. My daughter was especially excited about the new mini-doll figure and she would like to collect them all.

This was her first real Lego set and she was able to assemble it herself by following the instructions. I had to help her out a couple of times - building the brown parts of the tree was more complex than I expected. She was very proud of herself after she'd completed the 40 plus steps involved.

The tree house set has a lot of nice touches - a little secret hiding spot for treasure, ladders that swing up & down and a very cute bird and cat. Regular mini figures also fit nicely in the set and my 4 year...

Our 9-year old daughter got this as a birthday gift and really likes it. She's made 3 headbands already and they've held up so far. This would be great to use at a birthday or slumber party as a craft, since it includes 10 headbands. She plans on making all 10 and then giving them to her friends. I would say this product is good up to the age of 9.
Great for young crafters
My daughter, who is 8, loves creative, artsy things. However, often the art sets can be a bit too complicated for a child to understand the instructions or to do with little fingers and require a significant amount of parental help to complete.

She got this for her birthday and it was just the right level for her to do on her own. She is still young enough to want to wear the headbands with fun stuff like bows and feathers on them, and old enough to be able to complete the crafts on her own. Plus, you have the added bonus that she really gets to show off her artwork and wear it to school to show her friends.

There are 10 headbands with the kit and lots of ribbon to make bows or to wrap around the headbands. There is also feather, flowers and jewels to add to them. Glue is included. There are enough headbands in this kit that you could easily buy this and it would make it a great birthday party activity.

I would recommend this for ages 7-9 or so.
Good toy; price here is outrageous
This is a good toy for headband-wearing little girls in the 6-9 age range who like creative "crafty" activities. They can design, create and finally wear, or give to friends as gifts a variety of headbands. There is a fairly generous variety and amount of decorative "stuff" for the little designer to use. It's a good toy, but don't buy it at $32! That is about twice what you'll find it for in a good toy store. It's just an outrageous price for a good toy.

I purchased this mane-ly for anonymity, but instead it was a night-mare that saddled me with un-bridled panic.

At a recent Comic Con, I donned the mask wearing my best track suit, jockeying for a simple laugh: "What do gay horses eat?" I queried, eager to bray "Heeeeeyyyy!!" Comic gold, friends, I know.

But the neigh-sayers came unglued. "No! You're George Takei! I know that voice!"

Now, it doesn't take a gallop poll to know what happened next. I hoofed it out of there with herds of fans riding my ass, shouting till they, too, were...horse.
They called me crazy, but who's the giant horse now?!
This mask imbues the wearer with super-human abilities. The power to make everyone around you feel akward and uncomfortable being first among them. After wearing the mask for several days my identity was consumed and replaced. There is only the horse now. Best purchase I ever made.
An Actual Review...With Actual Description!
I spotted this after viewing some fun items like Uranium Ore and Canned Unicorn Meat. After hearing just how much fun people have with a horse mask, I knew I had to have one! Especially after I searched the web and found a picture of a guy wearing this with hooded jacket...that was especially freaky!

I got this one (alas, only available at outside sites right now) because it seems to be the most realistic looking, plus has that all-important disturbing feel.

1. Heavy duty materials.
2. Has a slit up the back for easy donning and removal. Slit is barely visible as there's "mane hair" on both sides of it. Image of this added.

I gave Goldie Blox to my amazing little nieces (ages 6 & 8) and they are huge Goldie fans now. They read the story and were so excited to start building that I couldn't get the bits unwrapped fast enough. They loved how they could build something that worked like it did in the story. (And it did actually work!) I visited them them about a week later and they had been playing with Goldie non-stop. They made all kinds of cool shapes and variations on the "spinning machine" that they were excited to show me. Goldie is also fiercely guarded from the boys in the house who want in on the action.
Thank you GoldieBlox for giving me a fun and educational alternative to the rest of the pink garbage that is pushed on girls today. Down with Bratz up with engineers!
Meh
It is hard not to get excited when girls and engineering are put together. I had high hopes for this product. It was pricey for what it was. After my child figured it out, she thinks she is done with it, and why do it again. I don't usually write reviews, but I felt compelled to write this one. I think I will just stick to the gender neutral building toys she spends lots of time with.
Great teaching gift for girls.
Bought this for my daughter (4-1/2) and she loves it. We've read the book, and we experiment with different ways to make the characters spin on the wheels. The build quality on the characters and crank handle is so-so. The crank handle constantly pops off when my daughter turns it and the characters don't always stay on very well. I will attribute some of it to her being 4-1/2. However, the crank comes off when I turn it too. Overall, I am pleased with the purchase due to the skills it's trying to teach in an approachable way.

Just a heads up: if you're looking for the large-format UNO cards you remember, these are not them. The cards here are smallish playing cards, like the old airline playing card decks.

Not a big deal, but we were expecting the bigger cards and that's not what this is. I came back to see if we missed something but this product description neatly avoids saying what size the cards are, and they use the big box and "product size" fields in such a way that other people may also assume these are the large cards.

Just figured I'd let people know.
Good, Clean Fun for the Whole Family
There isn't much I can say about this game that hasn't already been said. But I will.

This game is labeled for ages 7+. I'll tell you, though, my boys were absolute UNO ADDICTS when they were 4. It's really easy to learn, so they caught on very quickly. For about 6 months, they played this game with my husband every day as soon as they got up in the morning and the minute he got home from work each day. We have taken a deck with us everywhere we've gone incase we've needed something to do to pass time.

We would never be without this game.

Playing with the little kids, we never keep score. We just play that whoever goes out wins.

Works for us.

The Jackpot of the All !
When I first saw that the first season of Spongebob was coming, I was confused. Why on Earth would they put allmost all of these episodes on DVD again? I mean, couldn't they just put the rest of the episodes on more single DVD's? So then I went onto Spongebob's website, and figured out how many more episodes that weren't already available on the other titles, would be on the first season. There are approximantly 16 episodes that you can't get on the recent DVD's.

Unlike some people, I am a really big DVD collector, and I sometimes buy DVD's that I already have on VHS. And that includes buying the first season of Spongebob when I already have all the other Spongebob titles on DVD.

Spongebob rules all! A thirty-year-old mans opinion.
SPONGEBOB IS ONE OF THE BEST CARTOONS EVER CREATED!!! There I said it & I mean it. A lot of people (not Spongebob fans of course) think this cartoon is totally senseless. But the ones I've actually been able to sit down & force to watch a few episodes have happily converted. Okay the premise is ridiculous, but that's the fun of it & the characters are great. Don't mind that a lot of the things that happen don't make sense, it's a CARTOON. Even the characters make fun of themselves, like how can they hear without ears & how can they make fire if they're under water? It's also kind of educational. WHAT!! Did I say "EDUCATIONAL"? YES!! Megablocks is going to get a lot of use in my house
When children 1-4 years old visit with their parents, I like for them to have something to occupy their time. These blocks do the trick. My how the children (and adults) love to play with them. As a teacher, I find the educational value to be excellent. I would recommend them because they help children to recognize the primary colors, building different objects, spacial planning and counting to name a few uses. These are excellent manipulatives that help children with hand & eye coordination as they are playing. I would highly recommend these blocks.

My husband wanted to get our baby a Gloworm. His desire was based on what he remembered of them from many years ago. The current Gloworms are not nearly as nice as they used to be - they play loud music and aren't nearly as cute.

When I found the Soothe and Glow Seahorse I was so happy! Firstly, it's cute, much cuter than the Gloworm models. Secondly, the music and sounds are also much much better - the music is quality and the volume can be adjusted. The sea sounds are a nice touch as well.

Unlike the Gloworm, the Soothe and Glow Seahorse actually does help baby wind down with it's gentle music and ocean sounds. I would recommend this toy any day.
You can turn off the music easily
I purchased this seahorse around January 2008. I almost returned it because, although it's nice that the music plays for around 5 minutes (we timed 6 1/2 minutes), I didn't want to keep it if there wasn't a way to easily turn off the music without it playing all the way through. There is no mention anywhere on the box or in the manual that you can turn off the music other than by going inside the velcro and turning off the on/off switch (and who would want to do that and wake up the sleeping baby with the loud velcro?) Then, by accident, we found that if you press and hold the seahorse's chest for several seconds the music will gently fade and turn off. I called Fisher-Price and let them know so hopefully they'll add this information to the box and manual soon. It's a bit "head heavy" which makes it a little hard to handle. It's not machine washable like the original Gloworm, only "surface washable". Great product overall. It's so darn cute.
BETTER than the traditional gloworm
We first bought a gloworm. Piece of junk if you ask me. The Soothe & Glow Seahorse is FANTASTIC! It plays music for 5 minutes as well as soothing ocean sounds like waves & bubbles. My kids love it! It was purchased for my now 4 month old (we bought him the gloworm originally that hardly played a song despite following all the directions)but my 20 month old is constantly stealing it to soothe him to sleep as well. This makes putting my kids to bed a piece of cake I never have to struggle to get my 20 month old in bed he just jumps right in as long as I have glowie the seahorse!

This is an excellent game for 2-5 players, and especially for kids. I was initially put off by the theme and the mentioning of winning the $1 million dollar prize on the advertisement. I immediately thought there would be paper money involved and it would be like Monopoly where I would have to be a banker,,,and yech. But no, I was WRONG. There is no fake money involved! Just little cards with different colors. Easy, but challenging. It is a game where you can be nice and not mess with your opponents supposed destination, or you can try and block them. You get points according to the tracks you lay and connections you make.
But please, I love Amazon, but their Days of Wonder games are all overpriced. You can get this and their other games much cheaper on designated game sites. Do a search, read other reviews, boardgamegeek is a wonderful place to look and compare games. This was one of the first games I bought and I just keep finding more neat games to buy that you...
Fun for beginners and gamers, kids and grownups
Every year I buy my daughter at least three board games: one for Christmas, one for Three Kings Day and one for her birthday. It has become a tradition we both enjoy. I purchased TTR after reading excellent recommendations from other gamer parents on Boardgamegeek. I was not disappointed.

The game components are well made and beautiful, and the box is designed to store them well. This is very important, as the game has lots of pieces: cards, colorful plastic trains and wooden marker tokens.

Each turn lets you make decisions, play is never merely mechanical. Each time you play you will be able to choose one of three different actions: claim a train route, collect train cards or gather destination tickets. One of the best games - ever!
When I first heard about Days of Wonder's newest game, Ticket to Ride (Days of Wonder, 2004 - Alan Moon), I was excited. But how could I not be - for all of Days of Wonders games so far have been fabulous, and it seems that each successive game gets better and better. And Alan Moon with a train game (shades of Union Pacific) sounded like a winning combination. I had an opportunity to play the final version of the game, and was quite impressed with how the game looked.

And is the game any good? The short answer is that once you play this game, you'll never play TransAmerica again. tasty tasty crayons
My mom was too poor to buy me awesome name brand crayons like all the other kids had when I was little. Now that im all grown up and dont have to steal the worn out ones from Pizza Hut I bought my very own box. Its a little harder to stay in between the lines with your pinky up due to the fancyness of these Crayolas but im hoping my skills will improve with time.
PS. there arent even 24 colors in the rainbow! Crayola has done it again with their wizardry.

My box did arrive with a few broken tips from shipping so it may be better to buy local.
Best on the market
This is the first year we were required by the school district to buy the 24 package of crayons for the students. Honestly, I've tried all those offbeat brands and nothing works like Crayola. I even buy these for the Shoeboxes that we send overseas with Franklin Graham's ministry. They hold up better, don't flake all over the place, the kid's clothes, etc., and the children just prefer the colors of these compared to the knock-offs. Kudos to Crayola - they've been making the best for years and no one has ever figured out how to make them better, because you can't! Highly recommend!

Great drill that really accomplishes anything I throw at it. I've been able to easily screw in 3" construction screws into dry fir. Great for flooring applications and really nice slow speed to make sure you're starting steady.

The two batteries that come with this kit are great. I've been able to go a full day without swapping. The only time I need to swap more often is if I'm using a 1" wood drill bit going through very dry fir beams/joists. I've been able to use an 18" long 1" wood drill bit without so much as a slowdown. Very impressive for a drill this size. It's my general use drill that I use for pretty much anything.
Cant go wrong with a dewalt
There is a reason why I only buy dewalt. They practically gave this drill set away. A must have for any household. great for standard projects. Bump up to the impact models if your gonna build a barn.
No more lithium-ion for me
I purchased this item for only $99 at HD. This unit includes 2 Ni-cad batteries. Why get these instead of the newer Lithium-ion? Research on the web shows that Lithium-ion batteries have a shelf life between 2-3 years. So, unlike Ni-cads, EVEN IF YOU DON'T USE THEM, they will degrade and need replacing in a couple of years. How long have they been sitting on the shelf before you buy them is anyone's guess but that is part of the battery's shelf life. Then when you do go buy new ones they cost as much as the kit did to begin with.

Perhaps if you are a professional that uses the drill all day, day after day you will be ready for a new kit every couple of years. But for the average Joe who might not use the drill for 3-4 months, you are losing battery life regardless.

Do your wallet a favor and stick with Ni-cads until the technology improves. This is an excellent drill with plenty of power. Also, Ni-cads continue to work in cold weather unlike Lithium-ions that...

I think this is a fine toy overall. My 7 month old son enjoys playing with it, pressing the buttons, and I think it will be a nice child foil for the "adult" remotes. But I had one BIG problem with it... the "VOLUME UP" button. This thing is quite loud already when you turn it on, and by pressing the "volume up" button (which is very easy to do by just having a child lay on it) it gets obscenely loud. Like, competitive with the real TV or stereo loud.

Well, I couldn't take it. So I opened it up with a screwdriver and took a look inside. It's a simple matter of just pulling out the rubber tab corresponding to the volume up button. No extra tools required, no real effort. I screwed it back together and now everything works fine EXCEPT for the "volume up" button. The remote defaults to its starting volume every time you turn it on with the switch, but now it never gets to brain-splitting volume, only the lower (but still rather loud) level.

This is a super cute toy remote that basically teaches your child the purpose of a remote control. The little songs are catchy and the voice is not too annoying.

Features of the remote:

Number keys: When pressed, voice states the number. If you press the same one twice, a little sound plays instead.

Volume button: Can either press up or down and remote will tell you "volume up" or "volume down".

Channel button: Can "change the channel" either by going up or down. Various "channels" are announced when you do such as weather, shape of the day, and the colorful music show.

Play and Stop button: Voice will say either "Go" or "Stop"

A fun toy, but not a favorite
Got this for our daughter to distract her from our remotes... didnt work. Ours are still far more exciting. She does like pushing the buttons and watching it flash, but not quite as fun as the real thing.

My only complaint on this is the volume of the songs. They are REALLY loud, and while the volume play buttons really work, because the kids can reach/play with the button, it's constantly going up really loud and then back down to a reasonable volume. We solved this by putting a piece of tape over the speaker... standard procedure around here!

Google has released specifications for the Second Generation Nexus 7 with the release date on July 30th 2013. Resolution has been bumped up to 1920x1200 (323 PPI!), a faster Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 (sorry, no S8) quad core processor clocking in at 1.5 GHz (vs the 1.3 Tegra 3 on the First Gen Nexus), 2 gigs of RAM, 4 times as powerful graphics chip, and a 5 megapixel back camera. Cnet is reporting that the Second Gen will have HDMI out capabilities from its micro usb port, thus implying the MHL protocols which were missing on the first generation are enabled on the Second Gen thus letting you plug your tablet into your TV to watch movies. The tablet is a bit lighter and a bit thinner than the first generation as well. Also ships with Android 4.3, the newest version. The dimpled back that so many people loved is gone replaced with a smooth surface. Still no Gorilla Glass, but now includes Dual Band Wifi and stereo speakers. Battery capacity...

Google just announced a newer version of Nexus 7, making this product obsolete. Some of the highlights are -
- A nice bump in the screen resolution - 1920 X 1200 (323 ppi)
- A 5 MP rear facing camera
- Ships with Android 4.3, which has a restricted profile feature that can be used to block in-app purchases and limit access to content.
- The usual improvements in processor, memory, weight, speakers, wireless, etc. You can find the details on the official website for Nexus 7.
- The 32 GB model is $269 now. $20 extra for the new model is well worth it, in my opinion.

Fist off this is not an Amazon purchase. Sorry Amazon, but it was cheaper at my local department store. Second, I will not compare this android tab to a ipad!!! Thats just stupid, IMO. Oranges and apples. One thing is all apple stuff cost more for comparable products. I dont buy over priced apple products.

Ok as for the Android tabs, this one is a winner. The new processor is lightening fast!!! I multitasked, played Netflix, and loaded the thing and its speed held great. Its touch is very responsive. Its res is great too. For the buck, 249, at most department stores and electronic stores, it beats the competitors. The only way to get better is to pay more.

There is no expansion slot but with 32 gigs its not really needed. You can Mini-USB it to pc for file transfer with no prob.

It rotates to landscape with no need for an app.
